Privacy Policy

While processing personal data, APPelit B.V. works conform to applicable data protection legislation requirements, like the General Data Protection Regulation. This means we:

  • specify our purposes before we process personal data by using this privacy statement;
  • limit our collection of personal data to only the personal data needed for legitimate purposes;
  • First, ask for explicit permission to process your data in cases where your permission is required. Permission is the legal base for processing data;
  • take appropriate security measures to protect your data, and we demand the same from parties who process personal data on our behalf;
  • respect your right to access, correct, or delete your data held by us.

APPelit B.V. is the party responsible for all data processing. This privacy statement will explain what kind of personal data we collect and for which purposes within our app Studinty. We recommend that you read it carefully.

Registration
Certain features of our service require you to register beforehand. You will have to provide information about yourself and choose a username and password for the account we will set up for you. Creating an account gives us explicit permission to use your data.

For this purpose, we use your name, country (current living, current study, future study), city (present living, current study, future study), address details, email address, gender, birth date, profile picture, interests, nationality, languages, and current and future study information, -plans and -preferences. We do this based on your consent. We store this information until you close your account. We will retain this data so that you do not have to re-enter it every time you use our app, and to contact you in connection with the execution of the agreement, and (if applicable)  invoicing and payment, and to provide an overview of the products and services you have purchased from us.

After completing your profile, you will be asked to share more information about yourself voluntarily. You may allow us to access your photo album or camera to upload pictures. If you do not want to share more information about yourself, you are not obligated to do so. However, it might affect the usability of the app.

Sending Announcements
Occasionally we can send you announcements such as newsletters, new features, to participate in user feedback surveys, etc. These will be sent via email. If you want to unsubscribe for these mailings, scroll down to the Unsubscribes section in the e-mail where you will see your unsubscribe link.

Messaging
You can send messages to other users within the app. We will need to process these messages. In doing so, the content will be encrypted.

Before accepting a connection request, your name, age, profile picture, and personal message will be shown to other users. Processing your data is also required for the operation of the messaging services.

Contact form
You can use our contact form on our website or the app to ask questions or make any requests.

For this purpose, we use your name, email address, and the message you want to send to us. We do this based on your consent. We store this information until we are sure that you are satisfied with our response. Your satisfaction can be declared by letting us know that the case has been closed and/or if a reply stays out for one month.

App stores (Apple and Google Play)
The app providing the service has been downloaded via a third-party app store. We have no influence on which personal data the provider will process or for what purpose it will be processed. We recommend that you read the applicable privacy statement of the provider in question.

Publication
When using our service, the following data is published to be visible to everyone on the Internet:

  • your name
  • your gender
  • your age
  • your profile picture
  • information provided about yourself (“About Me”)
  • your nationality
  • the languages you speak
  • your current city of residence
  • your current study and future study plans and preferences
  • your study period
  • your interests
  • your ‘type of user’ (i.e., local or not)
  • Arrived/not arrived at future study destination status
  • Your posts (if applicable)
  • Your comments on posts (if applicable)
  • Your adverts in the Housing, Events and Marketplace section (if applicable)

You must provide this data truthfully to offer you the best results and in-app experience.

Providing data to third parties
Except for the parties (Apple, Google, Pusher, OneSignal, Sendgrid, Google Maps) necessary to deliver the services mentioned above, we do not under any circumstance provide your data to other companies or organizations unless we are required to do so by law (for example, when the police demand access to personal data in case of a suspected crime). For the social login feature, we use Apple, Facebook, and Google services, and we retrieve your username and email during registration.

Statistics
We keep statistics on the use of our app, but these are always kept anonymous. We do this to collect information for future development and improve the application regarding functionality and sustainability—for example, the duration and frequency of your visits. The data is stored as long as the app is in use.

Security
We take security measures to reduce misuse of and unauthorized access to personal data. We take responsibility for the security of your data. We renew our security measures to ensure safe personal data storage and track what might go wrong.

Changes to this privacy statement
We reserve the right to modify this statement. We recommend that you consult this statement regularly to remain informed of any changes.

Inspection and modification of your data
You can always contact us via our contact form in the app or on our website if you have any questions regarding our privacy policy or wish to review, modify or delete your data.

You have the following rights:

  • Right of access: you have the right to see what kind of personal data we processed about you;
  • Right of rectification: you have the right to rectify any personal data we have processed about you if this information is (partially) wrong;
  • Right to complain: you have the right to file a complaint against the processing of your data by us or against direct marketing;
  • Right to be forgotten: you can file a request with us to remove any personal data we have processed of you;
  • Right to data portability: if technically possible, you have the right to ask us to transfer your processed personal data to a third party;
  • Right to restriction of processing: you can file a request with us to (temporarily) restrict the processing of your data.

If you exercise any of the rights mentioned above, we might ask you to identify with a valid ID to confirm it is your data. If so, you must hide your social security number and photo.

We will usually respond to your request within one month. This term can be extended if the request is proven to be complex or tied to a specific right. You will be notified about a possible extension of this term.

Complaints
If you want to file a complaint about our use of personal data, please send an e-mail with the details of your complaint to info@studinty.com. We will look into and respond to any complaint we receive.

If you think we are not helping you correctly, you have the right to file a complaint with the authority. For The Netherlands, this is the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
